TMS Therapy provided by TMS Center of New Orleans
Non-Invasive | Effective for Hard To Treat Depression and OCD | No Systemic Side Effects
You only have one brain.
Dr. Dansereau is a regional expert in TMS and has a passion for helping people get better. While no one can guarantee success, we do our very best to make success happen. With several thousands of TMS sessions under our belt, we have the experience to optimize patient results. Don’t trust your brain to just anyone!
If TMS doesn’t work for you the first time you try it, you are not likely to ever try it again, even if your results could have been better. We know this so we do everything we can to move the odds in favor of treatment success. We tailor each TMS treatment plan based on the patient’s unique needs and use the latest evidenced based research in brain stimulation from all over the world. Our goal is to help you get well. Dr. Dansereau has done advanced training in TMS at both Duke and the Medical University of South Carolina, led by world renowned TMS researchers and clinicians. Dr. Dansereau is currently (January 2021) the ONLY provider in Louisiana offering the FDA cleared treatment for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD).
What is TMS Therapy?
TMS is an FDA-cleared, safe, non-invasive procedure used to help treat Major Depressive Disorder in patients who have not received symptom relief from medication. It is also FDA-cleared as an adjunctive treatment for Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD). It is non-pharmacological and has no systemic side effects.
Why TMS Therapy?
Medications do not work for everyone and some people cannot tolerate the side effects from medication. After a patient has three failed trials of antidepressants, the likelihood of achieving remission with additional medication trials is unfortunately only 10%. Luckily, TMS therapy is now available for treatment-resistant depression. TMS also has been shown to significantly improve Obsessive Compulsive Disorder that has not adequately responded to medication or cognitive behavioral therapy.
Why TMS Center of New Orleans?
Advanced Technology: Our advanced TMS therapy equipment can provide treatments in half the time or less as traditional machines, and we use the same TMS device used at the top TMS research facilities in the world. We have the only TMS machine (MagVenture) that is FDA cleared for "Express TMS", an ultra-rapid three minute, non-pharmacological treatment for depression. Dr. Dansereau is the first to offer FDA cleared TMS treatment for OCD in Louisiana.
Advanced Training: TMS Center of New Orleans' Dr. Degan Dansereau, M.D. is a Board Certified Psychiatrist by the American Board of Psychiatry & Neurology and has completed advanced training in TMS including a visiting Fellowship at Duke University that was lead by scientific leaders in TMS and brain stimulation. Dr. Dansereau has also completed an intensive TMS course at the Medical University of South Carolina that was led by Mark George, M.D., who is considered the "Father" of TMS in psychiatry.
Affordable: We are in network with most major insurance carriers including Medicare. Our staff is very skilled at maximizing our patients' insurance coverage. The main barriers to patients receiving TMS have historically been time and affordability. We leverage our technology and expertise to overcome those barriers.
What To Expect
Your initial consultation will allow you and Dr. Dansereau to discuss your symptoms, treatment history, and whether TMS is an appropriate treatment for you. If you are a candidate, your first TMS treatment session can be scheduled to begin almost immediately. All TMS treatment plans are tailored to a patient's unique needs, are monitored carefully, and are changed by Dr. Dansereau if needed. We do not use a one-size-fits-all approach. How TMS is done matters!
